Our recommendations are to make sure that George Mason websites share information about energy, waste, what types of electrical equipment is installed, and other facilities. Making sure that these are kept up to date with what sources our energy comes from and how much energy we are using along with statistical information allows students and staff to easily understand their impact.
We also feel that it is important to keep the student body apprised of volunteer opportunities and other activities that arise. Making an effort to let student know where to find these opportunities can educate and enhance the understand of how their waste impacts the community. Initiatives like the composting, innovation food forest, and other waste management are good for the community, but need to be expanded so that more people can participate.
In summary:
Updating George Mason websites with information about what sources our energy is derived from, what type of equipment we have installed, and how we manage our waste.
Ensuring that the information about how successful the green initiatives are that George Mason has implemented is available publicly and is easily accessible.
Making a way for students and staff to provide feedback and suggestions on what the campus could do better in terms of how to improve. Advertising a website with a recommendation drop box.
Creating opportunities for students and other members of the community to learn about how to improve upon their management of energy and waste. Like tabling and creating incentives in order to get students and community participation.
Actively advertising is very important. Creating a student informant position within the facilities department is an easy way to gain insight on how facilities can operate more effectively within the George Mason community. Students that have a desire to work in the environmental field and that live on campus would bring the best information on what improvements need to be made.
